The new hanging system at Ashawagh Hall got a test drive at last week’s art show and everyone seemed to approve. The Springs Improvement Society raised enough to cover the materials and installation costs for the small room off the kitchen. The cost to do the rest of the hall will be around $3,800, so all the artists who have complained to me about the rotten hanging system over the years can kindly start sending checks. Donations may be sent to our awesome fund-raiser Teri Kennedy—who’s pulled in $1,300 so far—at 32 Argyle Lane, East Hampton, New York, 11937. Make the checks payable to the Springs Improvement Society.
There will be an Artisans Valentine’s Show at the hall on Saturday, February 13, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is a special gift sale created by local artists including John Todaro photography, Maidstone Jewelry, East End Fish Prints, Pressed Petals and Matt DiBernardo woodcarvings. Admission is free, so come on down and buy your sweetie a romantic something.
Last news concerning the hall: Karyn Mannix has an open call to artists to submit one piece to her annual “Love & Passion: Lust for Life” art show. The work should be in the love and passion theme and be no larger than 30 inches by 30 inches. There is a $40 hanging fee. Drop off is Friday, February 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. The opening reception is Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. Any questions call Karen at 329-2811.
Project MOST will be hosting its annual Empty Bowls fund-raiser on Sunday, February 28. They are still looking for volunteers to help out. If you are interested in helping, call Tim Bryden at 646-345-5608.
Incidentally, Project MOST is now on LTV. The goal of the Project MOST show is to feature the positive activities and accomplishments of our children. The show airs on Fridays at 7 p.m., Sundays at 11 a.m. and again at 7 p.m. Anyone wishing to participate should also call Tim.
The Springs Historical Society is always on the lookout for old photos of Springs and its residents. If you have some, library lady Heather Anderson would like to copy them. You can drop them off at the Springs Library or call her at 324-9686.
Also don’t forget the library is selling its 2010 calendar featuring past residents of Springs. It also has books and pamphlets for sale on Springs and some of its historical sites as well as the best used books on the East End.
The Springs Presbyterian Church has been getting an interior face-lift these past few weeks. Work has been done in the kitchen and food pantry area. They had some water damage when, after hooking up to town water, a pipe burst and flooded the kitchen. Contact the church if you wish to make a donation. The food of the month for the pantry is pancake mix and syrup but any nonperishable food item is welcome. Donations can be left at the side door if no one is there.
Trish Franey has done some amazing valentine window art at her Springs Liquor Store. Next door at the Surface Library, Bob Bachler is continuing his pottery and ceramics sale and his prices are insane. The gallery is open Friday through Sunday. The Springs General Store is having a 20-percent-off sale of all its books. Barnes Country Market has added a few new items to its menu including spinach wraps. And lastly, let’s get this winter over with already.
