Let me start off by saying that the men and women of the East Hampton Village Ambulance are devoted, caring and helpful people. They are your neighbors and friends who, when the call comes in, day or night, good or bad weather, they answer the call without any hesitation.
Many of the residents of this community are working two or three jobs just to put a roof over their heads and food on the table. If there is a charge for an ambulance call, how many, in a time of crisis, would call for an ambulance? This could cause a disaster [“East Hampton Village Prepares To Create New EMS Department, Completing Break With Volunteer Administration,” 27east.com, March 8].
Our country is in a crisis — the weather is crazy, the useless shootings of innocent people. Now is the time to stand up as Americans and pull together, not apart.
Please, Mr. Mayor, let our volunteers do their job, they were trained to do for the people of this town and village in harmony. This town is noted for its pulling together in crisis, so let’s keep it that way.

As we approach July Fourth, let’s remember that America has suffered through dark and divisive times before. It appears as if we are there again. While there are always those who capitulate, our history shows that we remember those Americans...
As a Sag Harbor native in my late 30s, I’ve seen the East End fully transform into the Hamptons — and it’s not a pretty picture. A village resident, I’m constantly reminded of how I don’t make enough money to...
Regarding your editorial, “Dangerous Liberty” [June 26]: We are of like minds on some issues — government overreach, the founding fathers’ understanding of the dangers of democratic process and of the dichotomy created by a two-party system. It seems important...
The Ladies Village Improvement Society of East Hampton extends many thanks to the generosity of our wonderful East End community. Our 130-year-old organization could not have had yet another successful LVIS Fair on June 14 were it not for the...
It’s good to see that my children are learning about conflict resolution at school. Good to know it says “fair” and “unfair.” Examples such as saying, “I’m sorry,” “talk about it” and “make a compromise” under “fair.” “Unfair” has the...
