After nearly 10 years of serving and educating the community at the Jewish Center of the Hamptons, Rabbi Sheldon Zimmerman is saying goodbye.
"We have made such wonderful friendships both in the Jewish and the interfaith communities in this village," the 75-year-old said of himself and his wife, Judith, last Thursday, two days before he was honored at the center on Saturday. "We had an opportunity to choose some and be involved in some wonderful educational and social justice issues. It's been a wonderful part of our lives."
Although he’s leaving the center, he still strongly encourages community members to visit and explore the center.
“I think people are very alone and lonely these days and I think that part of the religious imperative is to have a sense of community where if you are there, you are loved and when you are not there, you are missed.”
