Robert James Tulp, a 45-year resident of Amagansett, died on November 16 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 81.
Born November 10, 1927, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Regina (née O’Boyle) and Frederick Tulp, he served the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1947.
He worked as a creative director in the advertising industry. A member of the board of the Art Barge in Amagansett, he was also a member of the Amagansett Village Improvement Society and the East Hampton Town Democratic Committee and, in 2001, ran for East Hampton Town Trustee on the Democratic ticket.
Mr. Tulp worked with English as a Second Language students at East Hampton High School, offered his services to the Retired Senior and Volunteer Program and was the head of the East Hampton Town Senior Citizen Advisory Board.
In addition to his wife, Joan (née Warendorff) Tulp of Amagansett, he is survived by four sons, Matthew Tulp, James Tulp, and Evan Thomas, all of Amagansett, and Luke Thomas of the British West Indies; two brothers, Eugene Tulp and Alan Tulp, both of New Jersey; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, November 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, November 24, at 10 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Church in East Hampton; interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, also in East Hampton.
