Robert S. Breiterman of Northwest Woods in East Hampton died of a heart attack at his home on June 22. He was 58.
Mr. Breiterman lived in Syosset until age 14, when he left to attend Nyack Preparatory Boys School in Southampton; he had been an East End resident ever since. For a short time he attended the University of Maryland in Baltimore, but returned to the area to complete his education at Long Island University’s Southampton College, receiving a bachelor’s degree in political science.
He founded Roberts Associates, an investment mortgage and real estate development company with branches in East Hampton and New York City, 25 years ago. His specialty was private and commercial funding for planned urban developments.
An avid boater, skeet shooter and sports car enthusiast, Mr. Breiterman was fond of American history films and non-fiction about the two World Wars, and was particularly fond of colonial Long Island history. He lived in Settler’s Landing in East Hampton, an area that was settled in the mid-17th century, and enjoyed combing the beaches and woods looking for arrowheads, pottery pieces, wampum or relics of the past.
Mr. Breiterman is survived by his parents, Howard and Rita Breiterman of Middle Island; a sister, Carole Breiterman of Quogue; a stepdaughter, Gabrielle Knable of New York City; and a nephew, Jason Farley.
A memorial service was held at Guttermans Inc. in Woodbury on June 26. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the American Heart Association, 1 Union Street, #301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691-4183 would be appreciated by the family.
