The Ross School boys tennis team defeated Bayport-Blue Point in the finals of the Small School County Championship on May 18.
Ross saw a 5-2 victory over host Bayport-Blue Point, the No. 1 seed, last Thursday, May 18. Ross was runner-up four times prior, and now has an opportunity to compete in the Long Island Championship against the Nassau County Small Schools champions on Thursday, May 25, at Hofstra University at 4 p.m.
The skills and dedication of the players were on display during the intense competition. Teddy Brodlieb secured a decisive victory that contributed significantly to the team’s success. Gabriel de la Maza displayed finesse and strategic prowess at number three singles, clinching a well-deserved win for the team. Max Karmely showcased his talent at number four singles, earning a victory that bolstered his team’s position.
In the doubles matches, Leonardo Carmo and Nick Sanches dominated at number one doubles, exhibiting notable teamwork and coordination. They secured a crucial point for Ross. Alex Frolich and Simon Aser, at number two doubles, captured a victory that further solidified the team’s triumph.
Thursday’s victory marks a significant milestone in the history of the program, as it is the first time Ross has claimed the Small School County Championship. The victory speaks to the efforts of the players, who consistently demonstrated their abilities throughout the season. Ross defeated Southampton in the opening round of the team tournament on May 11, then defeated Port Jefferson in the semifinals on May 16.
