Division IV champion Emmy Winter made it to the quarterfinals of the Suffolk County singles tournament.
The Ross School tennis standout fell to Smithtown East’s Anya Konopka, 6-4, 6-1, to cap her high school career.
The senior made it through the first round with a 6-4, 6-0 win over West Babylon’s Christina Massoni, and bested Connetquot’s Katerina Papardon, 6-0, 6-2, to make it to the quarterfinals.
Winter had swept William Floyd’s Anabel Vancott, 6-0, 6-0, a week earlier to earn her spot in the Suffolk County singles tournament. She was also last off the court in a tough match to Bayport-Blue Point’s Emilia Romano in the team tournament. The Phantoms sophomore’s 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory lifted Bayport-Blue Point (16-0) to the small school championship title. Ross finished 16-2 and earned wins at Casamento Park last Wednesday, October 19, from Olivia Caruso at third singles (6-3, 6-1), Mia Frohlich and Valentina Sanchez at second doubles (6-4, 6-1) and Melanie Chuya and Carolina Saunders at third doubles (7-5, 6-0).
The Ravens look to be a force for years to come, with three seventh-graders competing in singles slots and a pair of freshmen playing doubles this season.
Sag Harbor’s Maya Molin also represented for the East Hampton Bonackers team.
The Pierson sophomore, who finished fourth in Division IV, lost in the opening round in three sets to Connetquot’s Papardon — 7-5, 2-6, 1-6.
Westhampton Beach junior Melina Pinonzek, who took sixth in the Division IV tournament, dropped her first match to Sayville’s Abigail Breen, 6-0, 6-1.
