Two accidents in almost the exact same spot just beyond a hill crest on Old Montauk Highway in Hither Hills on Friday afternoon landed five people in the hospital and one in jail, as Montauk got off to a rocky start to the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Both accidents involved vehicles that were stopped on the shoulder of the road in an area where the hilly roadway can resemble a roller-coaster — and sometimes attracts similar thrill-seeking.
