Pierson High School Students Visit Wall Street
Pierson High School students in Kevin Roode’s personal finance class recently took a field trip to New York City. Partnering with the tours and events company, The Wall Street Experience, which provides private, corporate, and school tours, the students learned about the history of Wall Street and participated in a simulation game.
Traveling through the streets of Lower Manhattan, Roode’s students were guided through George Washington’s inauguration location to the billion-dollar institutions that influence today’s global economy. The students not only discussed the history of the American economy, but the current work being done within the New York Stock Exchange that makes it a global leader in the financial sector.
The trip’s itinerary included the Wall Street Federal Hall, House of Morgan, Cotton Exchange Pearl Street, the Charging Bull, among other various locations. “The Trading Game,” a simulation game designed by a Wall Street trader, was also a hands-on experience for the students. The game, which broke the students up into two teams, simulated the trading floor environment. Students were encouraged to trade their given portfolios to maximize its value. Discussions were included throughout the tour and simulation game making this field trip a place-based and fast paced learning experience.
