Four Young Singers Awarded Scholarships
Bridgehampton, NY---June 6, 2022. The Choral Society of the Hamptons announced that it has awarded four, $500 scholarships to four promising young singers. The scholarships are awarded annually and are to be used for further vocal training.
The talented recipients include two students from Southampton High School, and two from Pierson High School in Sag Harbor. Genevieve Elizabeth Roeloffs, a soprano at Pierson was awarded the Mark Mangini scholarship. Genevieve wants to study music education and teach after college. Emily Glass, also of Pierson was awarded the Norman Dello Joio Scholarship and sang a wonderful version of “Someone to Watch Over Me” by George & Ira Gershwin for her audition. Emma Cervone, a junior at Southampton High School was awarded the Charlotte Rogers Smith Scholarship and wants to study music in college. She will be taking a music theory class this year. Lastly, Dhivya Sampath, a Junior at Southampton High School was awarded the Doris and William Leese Scholarship after wowing the judges with her version of “O Del Mio Dolce Ardor” by CW Gluck. Dhivya commented “Whatever I do in life or college, music will always be part of my life.”
In addition to the cash award, each student will receive a free ticket to the Society’s upcoming concert on June 25, 2022. Featuring two masterpieces from the baroque era, the chorus will perform Joseph Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and two Coronation Anthems; Zadok the Priest and Let Thy Hand be Strengthened by George Frideric Handel. The Choral Society of the Hamptons is a not-for-profit charitable organization founded in 1946. As one of the oldest arts organizations in the Hamptons, it celebrates the joy of choral music with the community in three concert performances a year. Lovers of choral music who can sight read are encouraged to audition. The four scholarships are named for individuals who were instrumental in the Society’s history and success including: its founder, Charlotte Rogers Smith, Doris & William Leese, Norman Dello Joio and most recently, a new scholarship in memory of the Society’s long-time music director Mark Mangini.
