Longtime Southampton Village resident Alan McFarland was appointed to the Village Planning Board this month.
Mr. McFarland will finish out the term of Pat Corrigan, who resigned from the five-member board in November. The term will expire on June 30, at which point he would have to be reappointed by the Village Board to a full five-year term.
This week, Mr. McFarland, who was sworn in at the January 20 work session, said he is excited about his new role in the village, adding that he is glad he finally has the time to serve. Originally from Pennsylvania, Mr. McFarland first started visiting Southampton Village in 1964, before moving here permanently in 1966 after marrying his wife, K.T., a former deputy assistant secretary of defense for public affairs under President Ronald Reagan and a current Fox News analyst.
At 72 years old, Mr. McFarland still runs his own investment banking firm, McFarland Dewey and Co. He also serves as the president of the trustees for St. Andrew’s Dune Church in the village, and he has served on the governing board of the Meadow Club for the past 44 years.
“I am just a local citizen who has been here for a long time, and I know a lot about this village,” Mr. McFarland said this week. “I will work to make intelligent decisions about these choices when they are presented to me.”
He was unanimously approved to the Planning Board, with Village Board members saying he will fit right in. “We had several good candidates in the mix, and we are happy to have him stepping up into the mix,” Village Mayor Mark Epley said.
