Every year I promote two art shows at Ashawagh Hall. The first opens this weekend. It is my annual “Vito Sisti Presents 20 Women: Paintings and Sculpture.” To clarify, the show is not necessarily about women’s figures, attitudes, emotions or other women’s issues. It is about getting 20 female artists showing together. At least that was my thinking six years ago when we had the first one.
This year’s participants are Abby Abrams, Mary Antczak, Sydney Albertini, Zoe P. Breen (On the invitations I misspelled it as Breem; sorry Zoe), Linda Butti, Kate Castoro, Eileen Casey, Trish Franey, Annette Heller, Mary Laspia, Geralyne Lewandowski, Setha Low, Joanlee Montefusco, Alyce Peiter, Stephanie Reit, Kris Warrenburg, Molly M. Weiss, Lisa Weston, Phoebe Fisher Wolters and Evan Zatti.
The opening reception is Saturday, June 20, starting at 5 p.m. There will be music by the Surf Dogs and a surprise band. The show will be up until June 28, and the gallery is open from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, contact me.
Project MOST is having a meeting on Wednesday, June 17, at 7 p.m. at 811 Springs-Fireplace Road. There will be a discussion of the distribution of invitations for the cocktail party fund-raiser to be held on Friday, August 7, in support of the Seedlings Project. Also, the end-of-year barbecue was switched to Friday, June 19, starting at 7 p.m. There will be hot dogs for $2, hamburgers for $3 and ice pops, water and popcorn for $1 apiece. At 8:30 p.m., Hamptons Drive In will be screening a movie in the big field. Admission is $20 for a family of four or $5 for children and $7 for adults. The group is also looking for volunteers. If you can help, call Ann Marie at 324-0144, extension 353.
Some quick notes: St. Peter’s Chapel holds services every Saturday at 6 p.m. followed by a potluck dinner. Everyone is welcome. The Springs Fire Department is always looking for volunteers. Springs Day is coming up; more about it in next week’s column. The Springs Library has great used books for sale. And finally, no ducks were harmed this week.
