As part of its annual “Souper Bowl” fundraiser, organized by third grade teacher Joan Branche, the school collected 77 cans of soup and (incorrectly!) predicted the San Francisco 49ers would win the Super Bowl. The proceeds are recorded as part of the nationwide “Souper Bowl of Caring” and the cans are delivered to the Springs Food Pantry.
Fourth-graders enjoyed freshly baked personal-sized pizzas as part of their math unit on learning fractions. Students designed a pizza with toppings and wrote the fraction of each topping then created their own individual pizzas for lunch. “Throughout the day, they participated in cross-curricular activities, such as building the tallest “leaning tower of pizza.” They also set up “main idea” and “details” reading centers that were pizza themed, a persuasive writing activity to determine where in East Hampton to get the best pizza, and testing objects for magnetism with pizza magnets.
