A utility pole fire Sunday morning at 10:45 a.m. on Cedar Road in East Hampton prompted police to close part of that roadway, according to a press release issued Sunday afternoon. East Hampton Town Police said Cedar Street will remain closed between North Main Street and Miller Lane Sunday afternoon while PSEG works to restore service. On Monday, the Sag Harbor School District was the victim of a cyber attack that temporarily disabled its server and computer systems, according to an email sent out by district officials to parents and residents of the district. The State Office of Information Technology Services and the Cyber Security Task Force have been contacted, according to the email. Superintendent of Schools Katy Graves said on Monday that the system would be down for another 24 hours at least. Springs School Superintendent Debra Winter, in conjunction with the Sag Harbor Village Police Department, East Hampton Village Police Department and East Hampton Town Police Department, issued a joint statement by email this week stressing the gravity of making statements that appear to threaten a school or its students or staff members. Over the past few years, the statement said, school districts and law enforcement agencies have seen an increase such incidents, most of which turn out to be pranks or distributive behavior. A box truck struck and injured a bicyclist at the intersection of Cross Highway and Montauk Highway in Amagansett just before noon on Thursday, August 15.East Hampton Town Councilman David Lys was driving toward Amagansett when he saw the bicyclist get knocked off his bicycle in front of Brent’s Deli.
