Thomas Kravitz-Hear
Thomas Andrew Kravitz-Hear of Las Vegas, formerly of Montauk, died in Las Vegas on Thursday, February 9. He was 39.
Born on August 23, 1972, to Lorie Dougherty-Hear in Nashville, he was raised in Montauk. At a young age Mr. Kravitz-Hear, known as Tommy to friends and family, took an interest to music like no other, family said. Watching his mother sing and play the guitar, it was in his blood to compose and perform. He performed for the first time when he illegally snuck into an open mic night at a bar when he was under age and got hired on the spot. Since those days of innocence lost, family said, Mr. Kravitz-Hear has performed with artists in various genres, both in the studio and on stage.
Shortly after graduating from East Hampton High School in 1991, Tommy left Montauk to pursue his career in music. He became a permanent resident of Atlanta in 1996 where he then attended the Atlanta Institute of Music and greatly expanded his friendships and fan base. His passions for music led him on many extraordinary adventures, like playing backup music for Soulja Boy and Outkast. He also worked for beautyandspeed.com as a videographer, and was named the “personality of the group,” who according the magazine’s website could “make any girl feel like a million dollars, and will get you up and moving no matter what mood you are in. He is one of a kind and an Atlanta local celeb,” according to the website.
He also worked with Legion Marvin Gore, the founder and CEO of the modeling agency StrawberryHunnies, as an executive model coordinator and mansion director. Many people would say that Mr. Kravitz-Hear was the life of the party. He loved comedy and doing impressions and there was never a moment where a smile wasn’t on his face, family said. In 2011, he moved out to Las Vegas to expand his music horizons.
Mr. Kravitz-Hear is survived by his mother Lorie Dougherty-Hear of Montana; his aunt, Hope Herrlin of East Hampton; and two cousins, Brittany Alvarado and Mallory Herrlin also of East Hampton. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Thomas and Alice Dougherty.
Funeral arrangements are still pending.
