East Hampton Town Board Will Vote To Override State's Tax Cap

Among nine public hearings at the East Hampton Town Board’s October 17 meeting was one on a local law that would override the state-imposed 2 percent limit on tax levy increases from year to year. The town’s 2025 preliminary budget of $103,722,303 proposes to pierce that cap with an 8.65 percent increase in spending over the 2024 adopted budget. A municipality can override the tax cap with the adoption of a local law and subsequent vote of 60 percent of the municipality’s voting board, Rebecca Hansen, the town administrator, told the board.
