East Hampton Town police, fire and ambulance personnel will finally be able to begin using the town’s new multimillion-dollar emergency communications system this month, although the system is still awaiting the installation of equipment on new towers planned in Montauk, Springs and Northwest. Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc said this week that the new digital radio equipment has been installed at the East Hampton Village 911 dispatch headquarters, at town headquarters in Wainscott and on three of the seven towers that the town ultimately expects to mount antennas on to help close gaps in communications. Minor Earthquake Reportedly Felt On East End Sunday

It being 2020, there should be no surprise that a minor earthquake could apparently be felt on eastern Long Island Sunday morning. According to the Unites States Geological Survey, the quake, with a magnitude of 3.6, occurred at 9:10 a.m. Sunday. The epicenter was in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, which is between Providence, Rhode Island, and Cape Cod. The USGS said the quake could be felt on eastern Long Island, but reports were few and far between. A Rhode Island fisherman disappeared late on Saturday night after he went overboard from a commercial fishing vessel south of Montauk. The U.S. Coast Guard and other commercial fishing vessels searched throughout the night and Sunday but found no traces of Carl Whitney, 32, after he was reported to have gone overboard by the crew of the F/V Hope & Sydney.
