Cranberry Hole Bridge now has a hole and is closed for the foreseeable future [“East Hampton Closes Off Infamously ‘Deficient’ Amagansett Bridge After Roadway Collapses,” 27east.com, May 10].
In 2014, Senator Chuck Schumer fought for federal funding for bridges in New York. In 2016, Congressman Lee Zeldin made sure those funds went to areas in Suffolk County.
Today, the Town of East Hampton and the Long Island Rail Road are both pointing fingers at who is responsible for the fix. Let’s do the logical thing: Expedite a performance bond, get construction done ASAP and whoever comes out on the short end pays the bond.
The town has done the maintenance and paving. The LIRR has previously posted press releases for the “LIRR’s Cranberry Hole Bridge (RTE. 33) Amagansett …” Seems like we know.
Still here.
