A house on Ridge Road in Wainscott collapsed in a structure fire on Friday, February 21, as multiple departments worked together for around five hours to fight the blaze “defensively.” When the firefighters arrived at about 8:30 a.m., the entire building was already “fully involved.” Specifically, East Hampton Fire Chief Duane Forrester noted there were signs of damage to the structural integrity of the building and the roof had started to “sag in.” As such, the firefighters stayed defensive, meaning no one entered the building. “We like to go into the house and extinguish the fire,” Forrester said. “We’re pretty ...

A 67-year-old hiker who got separated from his group in the Pine Barrens near Manorville was located after a massive emergency response and hours of searching on Monday, December 9. The man, who is from Staten Island, was reported missing at about 2:30 p.m. by friends who had been with him at Manorville Hills County Park that morning.
