On Friday evening October 8 at 7:00pm at the Southampton Arts Center, the John and Alice Coltrane Home hosts a truly special evening of music and discussion centered on the progress and mission of the Coltrane Home in Suffolk County, and featuring an all-star ensemble including stellar saxophonists Ravi Coltrane and Joe Lovano, talented vocalist Michelle Coltrane and the gifted young harpist Brandee Younger. The performance will be preceded by a panel discussion moderated by Coltrane scholar and music historian Ashley Kahn. This event is part of the Hampton Jazz Fest and is free to the public. Capacity is limited. Please Register at Southampton Arts Center website www.southamptonartscenter.org

This celebration of the music of both John and Alice Coltrane offers a rare musical meeting featuring four of the foremost interpreters of their musical legacy, including their daughter and son. The focus of the evening is the ongoing effort to restore the Coltrane Home in Dix Hills, Long Island, and ultimately establish it as a center for programming inspired and informed by the profound achievements of John and Alice Coltrane. John Coltrane composed “A Love Supreme” in the upstairs bedroom of the Coltrane Home while Alice Coltrane went on to record a string of groundbreaking records in the studio she built in the basement of the Home. The mission of the Coltrane Home lives in John Coltrane’s own words: “to be a force for good.”

This evening will be a celebration of the works and legacy of both Coltranes to expand awareness of the Home and its mission. It is produced as part of the Hamptons Jazz Fest in collaboration with Southampton Arts Center and made possible through the support of grant funding from Suffolk County Majority Leader Susan A. Berland. The Hamptons Jazz Fest is produced by The Jam Session, Inc. and is made possible by individual donations. This festival is a gift to our community celebrating the United States as a musical melting pot and the return of live music.
