Ada Calhoun on "Also a Poet"

Description:

Ada Calhoun will discuss her latest book, Also a Poet: Frank O'Hara, My Father, and Me, a staggering memoir from New York Times-bestselling author. The book traces her fraught relationship with her father and their shared obsession with the great poet, Frank O'Hara. Ada will be in conversation with Maureen Callahan a New York Times bestselling author of, most recently, American Predator.

Calhoun stumbled upon old cassette tapes of interviews her father, celebrated art critic Peter Schjeldahl had conducted for his never-completed biography of poet Frank O’Hara. She then set out to finish the book her father had started forty years earlier. The result is a kaleidoscopic memoir that weaves literary history with an honest and tender story of a complicated father-daughter bond.

Ada Calhoun is the author of St. Marks Is Dead; Wedding Toasts I’ll Never Give; and Why We Can’t Sleep. She has written for the New York Times, the New Republic, and the Washington Post.

Maureen Callahan is an award-winning investigative journalist, author, columnist and commentator, covering everything from pop culture to politics. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, New York magazine, Spin magazine and the New York Post, where she is currently Critic-at-Large.
