In March of this year, All For The East End (AFTEE) was reinvigorated to raise funds to address food instability and other emerging issues that have come as the result of the ongoing pandemic. Initially, founded in 2013, AFTEE, a unique 5-01c3, has always had at its core the support of the non-profit community of the East End… East Hampton, Southampton, Riverhead, Southold and Shelter Island…the five East End towns. Generous community donations have allowed AFTEE to make a real difference by supplementing the funds of numerous established food pantries and other pop-up pantries that are helping to feed out community. The increase in demand for food has been staggering. Food costs have risen dramatically and the numbers of families relying on the pantries continues to grow.
The community has been very generous, but the needs are not decreasing. AFTEE has already provided 43 grants that have helped the pantries feed thousands. But, our friends and neighbors are still vulnerable to the uncertainty that his pandemic has caused. We anticipate a continued, growing demand, especially as unemployment ends and the job market remains uncertain. And, as with every effort, public attention begins to fade, as do donations.
Show Time in Southampton is designed to do three things:
1. Help AFTEE continue to Feed The Need by raising funds and staying “top of mind”
2. Show the East End a united community effort of local companies that have joined with AFTEE to support those in need.
3. Offer some simple summer fun.. what could be better than a drive in movie or event that the whole family can enjoy, a little respite from the concerns of the day, offered in a safe and socially responsible environment.
