Temple Adas Israel invites you to an Art Exhibit Opening to meet artist, Michael Lichtenstein, followed by a Wine and Cheese Reception on Sunday, October 5 at 4:00pm.
Michael Lichtenstein was born in South Africa. He moved to Israel with his family at age 14. After high school in Israel, Michael served in the IDF for three years, including as a tank officer. Michael then came to the United States and earned a BA (Brandeis University), MA and PhD in Criminology (University of Pennsylvania) and was a college professor at Temple University for a few years. He then went to law school (American University), earned a JD and has been a practicing lawyer for more than 35 years.
About 8 years ago, Michael started painting and enjoys experimenting with different media. Primarily, he focuses on abstract art using acrylics. He enjoys creating a painting consisting of four to five layers, each of which changes the texture and then sees what that emerges. Michael loves simply creating, choosing color schemes and then seeing how they blend. He has created several pieces that focus on Jewish themes, including art reflecting Jewish customs and arising
out of and commemorating October 7 and the continued hope for peace and harmony one day. The pieces reflect both creation, beauty, peace and courage.
Michael paints mainly with acrylics on canvas. He enjoys the varied and bright colors that allow for a new and unexpected result with each painting. Typically, each painting is the result of several layers and combinations that blend and allow for texture differentiation. The creation paintings were created by using the acrylic
pouring technique. The more recent October 7 paintings reflect an attempt to
honor the victims and hope for the future. Hopefully, the hostages will be returned
soon and peace will prevail.
