Noted Princeton professor of history and public affairs Julian Zelizer of Sag Harbor, in conversation with former Newsweek editor David Alpern, will defend his timely new treatise, In Defense of Partisanship. While many see diverse political loyalties creating chaos, Zelizer explains the useful development of American political parties, despite some founders’ early doubts, and suggests reforms for a more “responsible partisanship” with greater accountability. “If we don’t alter course in the near future,” he writes, “we will keep dividing ourselves to death.”
