Join us for CCE Marine Program’s last Back to the Bays Brewery Lecture of the year! This month’s lecture will take place at North Fork Brewing Co. in Riverhead, this Friday, November 17, 2023, at 5:30pm.
Marine Botany and Habitat Restoration Specialist, Stephen Schott, will be discussing Kelp and Seaweeds.
Seaweeds are commonly encountered in our coastal waters but generally dismissed as a nuisance. Within the last few decades, the value of seaweed in the United States as a commercial product has been recognized and seaweed aquaculture is on the rise. This presentation will discuss the basic biology and ecology of seaweeds and historic human use of seaweeds, then explore the burgeoning aquaculture industry in New York and the work being done to make it successful.
