The Sag Harbor Women’s Sailing Conference will offer an opportunity to hear firsthand experiences and insights from highly decorated female sailors. The women-focused community event organized by local sailor, Venetia Satow, and hosted at Breakwater Yacht Club and Community Sailing Center in Sag Harbor will be held on Monday August 26th from 5:30-8PM. All are welcome to attend. Tickets are $5.
The speakers include a roster of impressive female sailors. Anna Tunnicliffe Tobias is a two-time Olympian and 2008 Gold Medalist, who was named US Sailing’s Rolex Yachtswoman of the year four times. Marbella Marlo is a recent Harvard sailing team graduate and two-time ICSA (Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association) national champion. Dawn Riley, Executive Director of Oakcliff Sailing and a National Sailing Hall of Fame inductee, was team captain for the all-female crew of the America³ syndicate and watch captain/engineer of Maiden, the first all-female team to compete in the Whitbread Round the World Race.
The event will include individual presentations, a panel discussion, and time to socialize with refreshments. The goal of the event is to foster and support the development of girls and women’s sailing around the Long Island Sound. Girls are often underrepresented at junior racing events and this inspired Venetia Satow to invite her role models to speak at the event. Sailing is a sport that builds life skills and offers many paths, as the speakers’ careers demonstrate.
