SOUTHAMPTON, NY — The Peconic Land Trust is pleased to announce its 5th Annual Autumn Open House will be held on Saturday, October 21 from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Bridge Gardens, 36 Mitchell Lane in Bridgehampton. The garden, which is open daily year-round with free admission, will offer visitors a variety of fun, family-friendly activities to enjoy throughout the afternoon. These include a garden-wide scavenger hunt, autumn-themed pumpkin painting, a newly-installed woodland story walk featuring “The Last Leaf” with its author, Billy Baldwin, leading the way, and craft tables with Shine Studios, Summerhill Landscapes, South Fork Natural History Museum, Children’s Museum of the East End, Niamuck Land Trust, Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt, and more! Live music will be performed by Ken Morsch and the Tewa Marimba Band with students from Bridgehampton School. Refreshments will be provided.
Event partners include, Children’s Museum of the East End, Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt, Hampton Coffee Company, Hank’s Pumpkintown, Milk Pail Farm, Niamuck Land Trust, The Shine Studio, South Fork Natural History Museum, Suffolk Alliance for Pollinators, and Summerhill Landscapes.

“While all the seasons at the garden have their beauty, Autumn offers many surprises, with changing colors enhanced by the golden light,” says Garden Manager Rick Bogusch. The gardens include many native plants that support pollinators and attract a variety of migrating birds and features a 4-quadrant herb garden (culinary, medicinal, textile/dye and ornamental), water feature, perennial beds, specimen shrubs and trees, a large beech hedge, a rose garden featuring between 50 and 75 varieties of roses, expansive demonstration vegetable garden, and 24 community garden plots all situated within a five-acre, park-like setting.
Our 2023 education program partners include Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons, Dr. Bruce Horwith, Greener Pastures Organics, Jackson Dodds, MGD Horticulture, Niamuck Land Trust, Perfect Earth Project, and Summerhill Landscapes.
While free to the public, Bridge Gardens also offers Memberships to support the garden’s operation and provide a variety of benefits, including reduced or free admission to the educational, recreational, and cultural programs at the gardens. A five-acre gem in the heart of Bridgehampton, Peconic Land Trust’s Bridge Gardens is a unique public and demonstration garden open 7 days a week with free admission. Donated to the Peconic Land Trust in 2008 by James Kilpatric and Harry Neyens, the Trust has maintained the original characteristics of Bridge Gardens while introducing new elements and programs that tie it to the organization’s conservation mission. These include an expanded vegetable garden to support local food pantries, a fruit orchard, 24 community garden plots, a strong focus on growing native plants, and demonstrating low impact, environmentally sensitive gardening practices.
