When the naïve and idealistic Jefferson Smith (James Stewart) becomes Washington’s youngest senator, he exposes corruption in high places and takes the case to the Senate floor, almost at the cost of his career. In the film, directed by Frank Capra, Stewart gave one of his most iconic performances. It received 12 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor for James Stewart, and also starred Jean Arthur and Claude Rains.
