Soldier Ride - The Hamptons, a 24-mile-long Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) community event, returns to East Hampton, Sag Harbor, and Amagansett on July 15th.
Since 2004, when local volunteer and resident Chris Carney bicycled 5,000 miles cross country to help raise awareness for the needs of injured service members, the event has expanded to having four staff WWP Soldier Ride teams across the United States serve over 14,000 injured warriors and family members at 650 events. On eastern Long Island, over a dozen volunteers provide local logistics and support here. This year, the East End ride will begin at the Amagansett Fire Department on Main Street on Saturday morning and travel to Sag Harbor and East Hampton before returning to Amagansett by mid-day.
The program enables East Enders to register (Adults: $75; Children 6-17: $35) and cycle alongside injured veterans and raise critical funds as the veterans build confidence and strength through shared bonds of physical activity, connection, camaraderie, and military service. The ride empowers warriors to find solace and healing to help them reach their potential.
Wounded Warrior Project is a national non-profit organization to support post-9/11 service members whose 18 programs also include Benefits Services, Family Support, Financial Education, Mental Health & Wellness, Peer Support, Physical Health & Wellness, and Warriors to Work. All WWP programs are provided at no cost to wounded warriors and their families
