VSOP Projects, Greenport Tie-Dye Arts, and Hero Beach Club are pleased to present an exhibition of extraordinary artworks by Courtenay Pollock, the long time tie-dye artist for the Grateful Dead. The exhibition will run for one weekend only at Hero Beach Club in Montauk on Saturday & Sunday, July 10 & 11, 2021.
The presentation in Hero Beach Club’s seaside courtyard will feature a selection of Pollock’s finest tie-dyed mandalas and tapestries. Made with natural dyes on specially sourced cotton fabrics, these works exemplify the artist’s mastery of technique and profound attention to intricate detail. Brand new tie-dye artworks for the home as well as large-scale pieces and important historical works will be present.
Alongside the art exhibition, Courtenay Pollock’s famous tie-dye t-shirts and a selection of vintage Grateful Dead and 60’s-era ephemera will be on view. Make-your-own tie-dye t-shirt workshops will be run by Greenport Tie-Dye Arts on Saturday and Sunday. Children and adults are all welcome to participate.
For the past 5 decades, Courtenay Pollock has been at the forefront of tie-dye art, pushing the boundaries of the medium and elevating the now ubiquitous art & craft to a highly complex visual language. Since pioneering the genre during the late 60’s counterculture movement, and developing his own “Geometriart”, a combination of intense color and kaleidoscopic geometry, Pollock has become the internationally acclaimed godfather of the Tie-Dye artform.
Courtenay Pollock’s work has been included in exhibitions at the Museum of Art and Design, The New York Historical Society, Fine Art Museums of San Francisco, and Bonhams New York. The Grateful Dead and their countless “spinoff” bands have used his legendary tie-dyed stage backdrops for more than 50 years.
Courtenay Pollock’s work will be on view Saturday & Sunday, July 10 & 11, 2021 at Hero Beach Club, 626 Montauk Hwy, Montauk, NY, from 11am til late each day.
