2023: Hang on to your hats – Folkie Fest is sliding into 2023 with a super lineup of slide guitar masters. We have Rob Europe, Kane Daily, Shecky Tom Davis, Frank Kingbee Latorre, and Kerry Kearney performing sets of original and familiar tunes.
Kerry Kearney is a slide guitar master, plays and works his instrument to limits that amaze even the most seasoned musician or cultured music fan. Kerry Kearney’s style, music from the “Psychedelta”, is his own brand containing an upbeat mix of American Blues & Roots, created from writing and performing on the circuit for over 40 years. Along with his band, he has continued to experience an overwhelming and positive response over the airwaves and especially when performing live. His wailing upbeat style of blues, driven by tasty, inspired guitar riffs, electrifying slide and infectious rhythms, has allowed Kerry to amass a huge loyal following.
Rob Europe is a young blues guitarist mesmerizing audiences wherever he appears. He has represented the Long Island Blues Society twice at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Rob plays with an expertly executed Piedmont style upstaged only by a voice so soaked in soul. “He made old originals his own,” one judge wrote on Europe's score card, noting a “hot” slide ability that captivated the audience with “very authentic blues.”
Frank ‘Kingbee’ Latorre is a noted Grammy winner who has toured with the likes of Johnny Winter and many other great Blues/Rock artists. He represented Long Island 4 times at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. He has recorded and played on stage with many Bands including Atlantic Recording artist Winger, and Paul Nelson. Frank received a Grammy in 2014 for his harmonica tracks with Johnny Winter (look back). Frank is also an award winning Visual artist. He has played at festivals in Atlanta, New Orleans, LA, and New York. He delivers a high energy style of Blues Rock Original music that is sure to please any size audience.
Over the years, Kane Daily has gained the attention of audiences in local bars and restaurants across Long Island. Growing up in a musical family, he is a true self taught musician. Kane embraced the Delta-Blues style of guitar playing, including acoustic and slide for which he has become known. In performance and recordings he can be seen and heard occasionally performing with local groups. Additionally, his own trio has performed on stages and venues at festivals among great national and semi national artists. In addition to performing with his own band he has recorded and appeared with Michael Falzarano of Hot Tuna and The New Ryders of the Purple Sage. He has also performed with many local bands including The Kerry Kearney Band and other sensational musicians at tri-state clubs.
Known around Long Island for retro surf, reggae and soul jam, "Shecky" Tom Davis began his adventure on guitar one year before the Beatles landed on American soil. After the basics, began to listen, and listen to many divers styles of guitar players. After decades of "trial and error" learning experience we arrive safely in this 21st century with full intentions of continuing the journey.
Folkie Fest offers an ongoing concert series with local acoustic artists in the spirit of folk music as envisioned by the late Pete Seeger. We provide a listening space and support live, local, singer/songwriters sharing their original work. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the community center, and a 50/50 raffle is held to benefit Long Island Cares: The Harry Chapin Food Bank.
