Folkie Fest: Songs for the Earth

Description:

Some of Long Island’s established and upcoming singer/songwriters join in celebration of the Earth for Earth Day. Performing: Grand Folk Railroad, Dave Christian, Delaney Hafener/the Belle Curves, Richard Lanahan and Bill Scorzari

Folkie Fest offers an ongoing concert series with local acoustic artists in the spirit of folk music as envisioned by the late Pete Seeger. We provide a listening space and support live, local, singer/songwriters sharing their original work. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the community center, and a 50/50 raffle will be held to benefit Long Island Cares: The Harry Chapin Food Bank.

New York, Singer-Songwriter, “Bill Scorzari transcends titles like songwriter or poet. He catapults past categories into a dark ruminative and ultimately life-affirming realm where folklore, memories, pain, prayer, and incantation meet.” -Acoustic Guitar Magazine (March/April 2020).
Peruse the reviews and you’ll find comparative descriptors such as: "a modern-day Rod McKuen," "Tom Waits or Malcom Holcombe, Scorzari's voice is in that neighborhood but still stands apart Bill's performances of note include Americana Fest 2016, and Newport Folk Festival 2019 for the “For Pete’s Sake” programing curated by Chris Funk of The Decemberists. Look for Bill’s fourth release, The Cross Winds of Kansas, in the Spring/Summer of 2022. www.billscorzari.com

Dave Christian, singer-songwriter and musician, has been composing and performing music for more than 4 decades. His style traverses a wide variety of musical terrain, from acoustic guitar driven rock ballades to hard funky rhythms with high energy electric. He is currently performing songs from his recorded releases “The First”, “Keeping Reason”, and (work in progress) “Paradigms”, with his band the Dave Christian Project. Dave’s music can be found at https://www.davechristianmusic.com/ and https://www.reverbnation.com/davechristian.

Inspired by the sounds of folk music from The Carter Family to First Aid Kit, producer-vocalist-songwriter-instrumentalist Delaney Hafener created The Belle Curves. Leaning on her eclectic influences in reflective, thoughtful songwriting, she and a rotating group of musicians create a unique indie/folk aesthetic. The full-length album Promising Light is available everywhere via Silo Recordings. The follow-up protest EP ‘2020’ was released in October 2020, and the most recent single ‘February Girl’ came out in February 2021.

Richard Lanahan is a folk rock and country style guitar player working on Long Island, NY. He was born in New York City and is not from Texas or Carolina. In 2010 Richard began to write and perform his own songs and has regularly worked as a sideman with other Long Island singer-songwriters and song stylists since 2004. Richard released his first solo record titled 'Dreamers' Witness' in 2015. This record contains 13 self-penned and self produced compositions. In 2016 Richard and multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Katie Pearlman began performing together as a duo. They feature artsy folk rock, some timeless hippie country as well as their own material.

Grand Folk Railroad brings on the fun with a quirky, eclectic/eccentric mix of 60-70's pop gems, one hit wonders, old-school-country, contemporary folk and the inspiring songwriting of lead singer Susan Schwartz-Christian. With a make-every-note-count approach to performing, a vast eclectic repertoire and questionable regard for musical traditions, Grand Folk Railroad blurs the lines between pop, rock, folk and singer/songwriter genres.
