FEATURING RUSSELL YOUNG
August 13th -September 8th
CURATORS’ QUOTE
‘Russell Young pieces have graced the auction block at Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and Phillips in both the United States and the UK and now here he is in East Hampton for your eyes only.
His work resonates with collectors because it takes beauty, tragedy, risk and a disputable reward and serves it up on an endlessly provocative platter.
Humanity, as a collective, has a fascination with the past and with those that endure into the present and undoubtedly into the future. A flame that burns so bright and so fast is always a source of intrigue. And maybe the present is more appreciated with a nod to the past.
Known for his portraits of iconic figures that focus on celebrated idols for their impact on society and culture, his recognizable images are often compared to that of Andy Warhol.
Combining painting and photography with individually applied crystals that are pressed into the surface of the artworks, results in a mesmerizing effect that makes each piece of Young’s oeuvre unique. The crystals, poignantly called Diamond Dust, bring Marilyn, Liz, Sophia and Brigitte to life with all the glamour they epitomized in life.
But not all of Young’s subjects are in the past. Kate Moss and Mick Jagger live on. For Kate perhaps it is the fascination of the fascination that creates such an endless appeal. For Mick, it is the journey that demands applause.
Russell Young has been featured in galleries nationwide, including notable fine art capitals London, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, Singapore, New York, Detroit, Miami and Los Angeles. Noteworthy collections include Barack Obama, Brad Pitt, David Bowie, Aby Rosen, and more. It goes without saying that Young is one of the most desired, sought-after working artists of today.’
