What’s a “Paper Collectible?”
Let’s start by saying it’s more than just paper. It’s an artifact – a piece of history – that represents a time, a place, people and emotions. There are many types of paper collectibles including postcards, photographs and a catchall category called “ephemera” that can include advertisements, brochures, broadsides, documents and letters. You'll be able see all of these types of collectible at our Labor Day Weekend Yard Sale.
Paper Collectibles are part of our collective memory. They document our history in an innocent and unvarnished way. For that reason, they illustrate our aspirations and struggles, our achievements and failures, our glories and vanities.
People who are attracted to Paper Collectibles include educators, historians, artists, architects, genealogists and anyone else who is sentimental about the places where they’ve visited or lived, or the sports and diversions they’ve loved.
Local history is a huge component of the offerings of our company, Hy & Mighty. Many local residents and visitors alike enjoy browsing our selection of several hundred postcards, photos and documents from just about every town on the East End.
Followers of family history and genealogy are among our favorite customers. It’s wonderful seeing people find postcard images of the town or city where their ancestors originated, the ship that brought their families to these shores, the city where they landed, the church where their grandparents were married, mom or dad's high school, etc. We have extensive holdings that will interest neighbors of Jewish heritage, African-American heritage as well as people with family origins in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, the Balkans, or Central and South America.
If you’re interested in Military History, U.S. Presidents, Historic trains, planes, ships and cars or if you’re a sports fan, you’ll find many items to covet and possibly own within our 150,000-item archive. Almost all of our well-organized postcards date from the 1880s to the 1950s. Our pricing is family-friendly with more than half of our inventory priced at under $5.00.
