The Long Springs land preserved by Suffolk County has unique historical and natural features. Early maps show upwards of six houses which no longer exist. The ruins of one abandoned house are still visible. In late 1800s the area was part of the Hampton Park Association, developed by artists and second homeowners. There is a great variety of natural features including common Oak forest, numerous springs small streams, man-made ponds, giant rhododendrons, and man-made Meadows.
