TOUR with EHTPS: Saturday July 22, 2023, at 9 AM. Something is Fishy in Promised Land. (2 miles, easy pace).
Before Oil was discovered in 1859 at Titusville, all oil came from vegetables or whales. As whale oil became scarcer, a new inexpensive source was discovered in a very oil containing fish. The extraction process was so smell intensive that it could not be done in a community. The processors went to Promised Land at an "out of the way God forsaken place" called Napeague! Meet 9 AM at the intersection of Cranberry Hole Rd. and Napeague Meadow Rd. Leader: Lee Dion, 631-375-2339, leedion@aol.com
Tours are $12 per person for non-members and free for members. The tours in collaboration with the East Hampton Trails Preservation Society (EHTPS) are also free for their EHTPS members. (ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP WILL BE CHECKED)
