Enrico Fermi, born in September 1901, was an Italian and naturalized-American physicist. He was a husband, father, and one of the world’s most brilliant and productive scientists. In 1938 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his demonstrations of the existence of new radioactive elements produced by neutron irradiation, and for his related discovery of nuclear reactions brought about by slow neutrons.
