Insight Sunday with Nanette Carter

Description:

“Working with intangible ideas around contemporary issues has been my motivating force,” artist Nanette Carter says of her work. The Church welcomes Carter as our featured artist for our March Insight Sunday, in conjunction with our Spring exhibition, Return to a Place By the Sea; four of Carter’s works, dating from 1998 – 2021 will be included in the exhibition and on view from February 5th through May 27th. We look forward to hearing her insight behind the works included, as well as the methodology of her other works, which have been exhibited globally and is a contemporary response to issues around war, injustices, and technology.

Carter is known for her complex compositions, working with paper collages, canvas, and mylar. She seeks to negotiate some of the world's harsher realities, explore human nature, and present the mysteries of nature through abstract language – form, line, and color. For Carter, music–especially jazz and improvisation–is vital to her work and practice. An award-winning artist and teacher, Carter has created a collection of work that has illuminated audiences and students to the abstract dialogue in the contemporary world.

Insight Sundays, held the last Sunday of each month, provide an in-depth look into the process, techniques, and concepts of art, directly from the Maker’s point of view. It is a monthly program open to the public and free to our members. Feel free to stop by prior to Insight Sunday to view Carter’s work and the entire exhibition. Our open hours are Wednesday – Sunday, 12 pm- 5 pm.
