Montauk – Southampton – Unity and Salute to our COVID 19 Heroes
Our First Responders have been hard at work, keeping ALL of us safe during these challenging times. We are uniting to salute these heroes, and inviting everyone to join the Car Procession, to show our gratitude to our COVID-19 HEROES from the safety of your own car on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, leaving Montauk at 3:00 pm. Let’s let our volunteers know that we value and appreciate their service and commitment.
The Car Procession Saluting COVID 19 Heroes will share the message that kindness, love and patience are also highly contagious. “Mitzvah Goreret Mitzvah” — One good deed brings another. Now, more than ever, we offer each other comfort and solidarity. “It’s not enough to stop the coronavirus spread, we must unite around the universal values of hope and loving-kindness,” says Rabbi Leibel Baumgarten, who is coordinating the event.
Lag B’Omer, the 33rd day of the Omer—this year, May 12, brings to mind the Talmudic sage Rabbi Akiva who stated “Love your neighbor as yourself —that is the great principle of the Torah,” and Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai’s mystical teachings. When R. Shimon was released from his quarantine, he sought to do tikkun olam to fix and correct.
Beginning in Montauk and culminating at the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, the 2020 Lag B’Omer Car Procession will thank our COVID-19 HEROES.
YOU design a great big placard showing your THANKS to the first responders,
Police & Fire departments will Escort the procession from beginning to end, Music playing from the loudspeaker on the lead car will bring good cheer to all, we’ll have balloons for all participating cars, a special gift for the responders!
