Learn About Diamondback Terrapins on a Walk Through the Salt Marsh

Description:

Learn About Diamondback Terrapins on a Walk Through the Salt Marsh: This program is for adults, teens, and children ages 8 and older.

Walk Leader: Paul King III, SOFO Environmental Educator

Salt Marshes are coastal wetlands rich in marine life, where freshwater and saltwater mix. Diamondback terrapins are the only turtles in the world that spend their entire lives in these brackish coastal marshes. This time of year is one of the few times when the terrapin comes out of the water, for now is the time that the female comes to shore to find a suitable location to dig her nest and lay her eggs. Join us as we search for evidence that the female leaves behind on her journey ashore, and possibly see a live terrapin!

For nonmembers, there is a $15 fee for Adults and $10 fee for children for this program. This program fee will also provide non-members with free admission to the museum on a day of their choice. Members are free.

Advanced reservations are required for all events. To register for this program, please contact us at info@sofo.org or call 631-537-9735.
