Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. The event, established in 1982, was in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries. This year it will take place October 1 – 7. Join members of the library staff in the celebration as they read excerpts from some of their favorite banned books, old and new, and discuss some of the reasons for the challenges, some of which are quite surprising. We’ll have displays on view, and light refreshments will be served.
