The Hoppy Acre and Mattituck Mushrooms Pop Up at Marilee’s Farmstand in Sagaponack May 19
Next up in the series of pop-up vendors and “farmer talks,” at Marilee’s Farmstand at 698 Sagg Main Street, Sagaponack, are two very special guest farmers:
Greg Kessler from the Hoppy Acre in Amagansett is bringing in his entire line of popular hot sauces and salsa on Friday, May 19, 10am-3pm.
And Agathe Snow of Mattituck Mushrooms will also be at this popular, little farmstand to talk about her organic mushrooms at the same time.
Certified organic since 2019, the Hoppy Acre grows peppers and garlic for their value-added products, as well as hops for the Springs Brewery, and indigo seeds for natural dye.
Meet Greg, who is happy to answer patrons questions about his work as a farmer and about his products.
Grown on her family’s farm in Mattituck, Agathe’s organic fungi have been sold at Marilee’s Farmstand for several seasons. Three generations of her family live surrounded by the man-made mushroom forest they have created. Agathe and her husband Anthony Holbrooke sell varieties of oyster, chestnut, maitake, poplar, lion’s mane, shiitake, king trumpet, and other mushrooms.
Their mushrooms benefit from the same pristine glacial melt waters that feed the Laurel Lake (Kettle Hole) Preserve. The varieties they grow change with the seasons.
The family’s advice for preparing their mushrooms is always free, and free-flowing. Agathe would love to tell you how to make a vegan "crabcake" from a lion’s mane mushroom.
Marilee’s Farmstand is currently open on Fridays, 10am-5pm.
Beginning May 27, this popular farmstand will also be open on Saturdays, 10am-5pm.
Look for events at the stand throughout the season including other pop-up vendors, farmer talks and more. Southampton Soap Company will be popping up there next month.
It’s not too late to sign up for Marilee’s Farmstand’s weekly Spring CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program. In fact, you can opt into the program on a weekly basis.
