Within each community, cemeteries are among the most fascinating, richest, and often the most valuable sources of historical information. The age of the community, its ethnic composition, as well as specific genealogical information can be determined by "reading" gravestones. The style of headstones and the symbols and inscriptions found on them reflect religious beliefs, social class and values, as well as cultural change over time. As we celebrate Genealogy Day, please join us for a socially distanced, masked walking tour of the North End Burying Ground with Julie B. Greene, Southampton Town Historian.
