Northeast Stage presents William Shakespeare's The Tempest across eastern Long Island this summer at the following locations:
28 July 2023: The Meadowland Vineyard in Cutchogue, NY
2 August 2023: The Chamber of Commerce Train Car park in Port Jefferson Station, NY
3 August 2023: The Shorefront Park bandshell in Patchogue, NY
4 - 6 August 2023: Mitchell Park in Greenport, NY.
All performances begin at 7 PM. Admission is free. Please bring a chair or blanket.
Set on an uncharted island in the Mediterranean Sea in the mid 16th century, which also happens to exist in the Long Island Sound in the present day, The Tempest is Shakespeare's last solo play, telling the story of a shipwrecked company who finds themselves on an enchanted island, governed by a wizard guiding them all toward his unknown designs.
The Tempest is directed by Tony Tambasco (The Mikado, Fun Home, Capriccio Radio), who studied at the American Shakespeare Center's partner program with Mary Baldwin University, and features a cast of performers from across Long Island. "The Tempest is about forgiveness, and learning to live with people who have done very bad things to us, which are not always the same thing, and I think we need a healthy dose of both in America right now," says Tambasco.
This September, Northeast Stage will celebrate 40 years as a non-profit theatre company, and has been focused on bringing summer Shakespeare to the public for free for almost 30 years.
