Please join us on Thursday evening, December 17th as we gather virtually for an intimate reading of a few favorite passages of Peter Matthiessen's most admired works by former friends and colleagues in the literary, environmental, human rights, and Zen Buddhist world.
We are thrilled to have esteemed scholar and environmentalist Bill McKibben join us for a special presentation; naturalist and New York Times best-selling author Carl Safina as well as renowned environmentalist (and the author's son) Alex Matthiessen, both of whom will read from The Snow Leopard; human rights activist and longtime friend of Peter's Rose Styron; Buddhist photographer Peter Cunningham who accompanied Peter on a 1982 pilgrimage to Japan recounted in Nine-Headed Dragon River; and farmer, poet, educator, and former Zen student of Muryo Roshi (Peter Matthiessen)–Scott Chaskey.
This event is free and open to the public.* However, space is limited.
Please send us an email at: info@matthiessencenter.org to reserve your place for the evening.
* Donations nonetheless are warmly welcomed as we continue our end of year fundraising campaign. For more information on how to make a financial contribution, please visit: https://peconiclandtrust.org/ways-to-give/peter-matthiessen-center
