North Fork Contemporary is sponsoring new printmaking workshops.
Workshop #1 / June 14 & 15
Join us for an amazing two day workshop in the studio of the Prellwitz family, founded in 1911 by Edith and Henry Prellwitz. Work on prints and drawings of your own in the historic studio overlooking the blue waters of Peconic Bay. Learn new printmaking techniques, get new inspiration and enjoy the summer breeze in Peconic. Our first workshop taught by Wendy Prellwitz will focus on monotypes and woodcuts.
Explore an improvisational approach to printmaking with monotype –
which are one-of-a-kind prints made with inks applied to the surface of a plate.
Working with non-toxic soy-based Akua inks and plastic plates, learn how to mix, modify, and use the inks for layering with various viscosities, combined with wood cut, to create unique prints. The monotype process is well-suited for developing ideas as you work with the process, and as always, pulling prints off the press will be a wonderful surprise!
All materials and lunch included.
Workshop #2 / June 28 & 29
Master printmaker Lorena Salcedo-Watson will lead a full two day workshop in intaglio printing and monoprints in a fully equipped studio overlooking the bay.
Lorena is a Professor of Practice, Drawing and Printmaking at Stony Brook University and a 14 year veteran at Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) in Bay Shore, NY. She has worked with Elizabeth Murray, Terry Winters, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Kiki Smith, Suzanne McClelland, Carroll Dunham, Susan Rothenberg, Julian Lethbridge, Jane Hammond, Lisa Yuskavage, Ellen Gallagher, and Malcolm Morley.
Explore dry-point intaglio printmaking techniques. This course will introduce intaglio printmaking techniques while working with a very user-friendly material for creating imagery. The workshop will focus on nontoxic materials and printmaking techniques. Students will be working on acrylic plates with water-based inks and quality printmaking papers.
This 2-day workshop is suitable for artists with any degree of experience with printmaking.
All materials and lunch included.
