MM FINE ART is pleased to present Recurrence, a joint exhibition curated by Lana Jokel, featuring the paintings of Jamie de Pasquale and the drawings of Paton Miller. The exhibition will be on view June 17 through July 3, with an opening reception June 17, 6 to 8 PM.
Of this body of work de Pasquale says:
The paintings in this show are based on a personal vocabulary, while exploiting perspective and scale. Each painting “grows by accretion,“ a technique I use to unify the picture plane. This process attempts to break some of the chains the 20th century has had on the two-dimensional picture plane. It’s a slow and at times frustrating way to work. The moment in time that each of these paintings represents took years to reveal. My paintings were not made to be a quick read, please give them some time.
On drawing, Paton Miller reflects:
I've always felt that if you want to really get to know an artist - look at their drawings. When I was very young I lampooned my family with drawings that my parents prized very much and as I got older I drew the world around me. My own family and I bought a farm in Costa Rica in 1998 and we were the only gringos in the little farming community. Our Spanish wasn't very good but I started drawing and painting our neighbors and their animals. The community soon got used to me recording their world with pencil and paper and when they saw their grandmother materialize on a sheet of paper, it earned me their respect.
