Sag Harbor's favorite family band, Edna’s Kin, is back for its annual Sag Harbor concert.
And the big news this year is that the band is releasing its second CD! The release, called
Two Thumbs, features studio recordings of seven new songs penned by Sag Harbor's own
Dan Koontz, four songs by Dan’s brother Andrew, and two tasty covers. As on their first
CD Whiskey & Wine, on Two Thumbs Edna’s Kin put their own spin on bluegrass,
country and the blues, but now they venture into rockabilly, rock & roll and Cajun styles.
The band will showcase these new songs at the concert, plus numbers from their first CD,
including “Mount Misery Breakdown,” inspired by the Sag Harbor neighborhood of that
name. Both CDs will be available at the performance for purchase.
The performance will take place at 2 PM on June 12 at Christ Episcopal Church in Sag
Harbor. The church is located at 4 East Union Street. Seating is limited. Advance tickets,
$10 each, are now on sale at Canio's Books, 290 Main Street in Sag Harbor, 631-725-
4926, caniosbooks.com. If any tickets remain, they will be sold at the door for $15. All
proceeds benefit the Christ Church Pipe Organ Restoration Fund. For further information,
call Christ Episcopal Church at 631-725-0128.
Edna’s Kin is Sag Harbor's own Dan Koontz on guitar, his brother Andrew on fiddle, and
their father Warren on bass. Sag Harbor native Bruce Beyer joins the family on drums,
and other special guests will appear as well. They all sing and harmonize on traditional
American acoustic folk and country music as well as their original music. Edna's Kin's
bluegrass version of Black Sabbath's “Iron Man” has received well over 100,000 views
on YouTube. The band's concerts at Christ Church have become a popular tradition over
the last 14 years, and are appropriate for all ages.
