Thirty-two men from the East End of Long Island joined the 6th New York Cavalry during the Civil War. During the approximately 140 battles, engagements and skirmishes, the 6th New York Cavalry was recognized as an excellent fighting force and earned the nickname “Sheridan’s Hard Hitters”. This illustrated lecture done by Southampton History Museum Volunteer Stephen Gould tells the story of the 6th New York Cavalry through the perspective of the Southampton men who served with the Regiment.
