Soap Making “Stirring Up History” Workshop at Hallockville Museum Farm

Description:

The work never stopped on the farm. The fall was busy with late harvest, preserving food for the winter, and preparing for the next year. One of these fall jobs was to make the soap for all of next year's laundry, washing and yearly baths.
Join Historic Cook Diane Schwindt as she teaches you all about the soap making process. Learn how a lard press was used to make soap, try your hand with a traditional mangling board, and feel the weight and warmth of a heavy sad (flat) iron. Then enjoy a small bowl of beef stew served with hearty bread — just as it might have been generations ago.
